GRAY BY SILVER
GRAY BY SILVER is a Korean ensemble consisting of piano, voice, daegeum, and drums. Since 2018, the group has actively presented a new current in Korean art music on stages around the world. Just as even the most radiant colors cast gray shadows, the group creates original compositions at the gray zone—where the boundaries of jazz, classical, and traditional music meet. Their full-scale international activities began in 2022 with performances at the Copenhagen Jazz Festival and the Aarhus Jazz Festival in Denmark. In 2023, they gained international attention through standing ovations at Colours of Ostrava—one of Europe’s top ten festivals—and at a Korean music showcase at Lincoln Center in New York. They have since brought their music to audiences in China, the UK, and India, furthering the reach of Korean contemporary music. As a result, in 2024, they appeared with the Korean National Symphony Orchestra in the “Glacier Concert,” a spin-off of Korean National Broadcast large-scale ‘Glacier Trilogy,’ delivering their original music to the public. Original creative art that transcends boundaries—sharing new fruits grown from the roots of Korean music with the world.
Time of Tree
Within the vast cycle of nature—especially within the framework of the four seasons—we’ve come to regard spring as a beginning and winter as an end. But is a seed merely a step toward the flower? Or could the flower itself be a stage in the journey back to seed, falling once again to the ground? Time of Tree invites audiences into the great rhythm and system of nature, expressed through a new current of Korean music rooted in its own identity.
