Pansori Academy

The stories of five pansori singers who performs for at 2023 Jeonju International Sori Festival are introduced through a lecture series by colleague performers, critics, and scholars before the beginning of respective 3-hour-performances of . Experts’ comprehensive commentaries will help audience deeply feel and understand pansori performances.

Master Kim Ilgu is often said as a person whom many artists want to be like. He is a pansori singer and also a highly-skilled performer of ajaeng, gayageum and cheolhyeongeum. He is a successful director of changgeuk (pansori-based music theatre) and a writer of new pansori text as well. In addition, he is the head of his prominent musical family and a strict teacher of many students. In the first session of of 2023 Jeonju International Sori Festival, Master Wang Giseok talks about the story of his senior colleague, Master Kim Ilgu, and his music.
