Fascination of Central Asian Music in which Traditionality and Contemporariness Coexist
The ancient Sogdiana, located at the center of Silk Road, had functioned as a crossing point of eastern and western cultures. Central Asian region, including Uzbekistan, is a place of cultural exchange beyond ethnic and state borders in modern times as well. Traditional musics of the Uzbek ethnos, Russian musics introduced during the Soviet period, and various types of contemporary genres coexist in Uzbekistani people’s modern life. Let us be attracted by Uzbek music in which traditionality and contemporariness both can be found, through musical performance by Sogdiana Chamber Orchestra, the representative music group of Uzbekistan, as well as ***’s additional commentaries.
