Western African Cultures and Musics from Griot of Mandingo Society

Griots are hereditary musicians of West Africa who are often called troubadours. It is hard to clearly define griot due to their versatility. They, as historians, poets, storytellers, observers, interpreters, consultants, advisers, musicians, and entertainers, are symbolic figures of African oral tradition. Kora master Ablaye Cissoko is an artist who started his carrier as a griot from the Mandingo ethnos of West Africa. The workshop, with Kora’s beautiful melodies, introduces the functions and meanings of griots in people’s everyday life. Musical-travel writer Sin Gyeonga hosts the workshop and adds commentaries.
