Performance Introduction

String & Wind

String & Wind Where the resonance of strings meets the breath of winds.

Korea reimagines the geomungo, an instrument with more than a thousand years of history, through a contemporary artistic lens. Centered on the original compositions of geomungo artist Ahn Eunjung, the performance reveals a new musical landscape shaped by the instrument’s profound resonance, subtle textures, and expressive breath.

Poland presents a musical journey through centuries of traditional heritage, featuring vibrant Carpathian folk songs, Klezmer traditions influenced by Jewish musical culture, the distinctive folk music of the Kurpie region, and the lyrical beauty of the Kujawiak dance. Together, these traditions showcase the rich diversity of Poland’s regional musical heritage.

The highlight of the performance is a collaborative stage where Korean and Polish melodies and rhythms converge. Korea presents Ahn Eunjung’s original works, including Dreaming Geomungo and Cheongnori, performed with geomungo, piri, and traditional Korean percussion. Poland responds with trumpet, clarinet, violin, and hand drum, weaving together Klezmer and folk melodies from the Galicia region to create a vibrant new musical dialogue.

Created to commemorate the 25th Jeonju International Sori Festival, String & Wind is an international collaboration that connects the traditional music of Korea and Poland through contemporary creativity. Respecting each other's musical languages while transcending borders and genres, the performance celebrates tradition as a living art form that continues to evolve into the future.
