Madalitso Band
From busking on the streets of Malawi to performing on some of the world's most celebrated festival stages, Madalitso Band brings its extraordinary musical journey to the Jeonju International Sori Festival.
The duo creates an unmistakable sound using acoustic guitar, foot drum, and the babatoni—a large, one-string homemade bass instrument—combined with their warm vocal harmonies. For nearly a decade, they performed on the streets of Lilongwe, Malawi, before being discovered by a local producer in 2009 and releasing their debut album.
Their growing reputation led to an international breakthrough in 2017 with an appearance at Sauti za Busara, one of East Africa's premier music festivals held in Zanzibar, Tanzania. Since then, they have toured internationally, performing at renowned festivals including WOMAD and the Glastonbury Festival, while their remarkable story has also been documented in a feature-length documentary film.
Filled with the vibrant spirit and joyful energy of Malawi's streets, Madalitso Band's performance offers audiences an uplifting musical experience rich in warmth, rhythm, and authenticity.
