Kim Sora's <Women's Nongak – Hello & Peace Ritual>

Led by percussion performer and artistic director Kim Sora, the Kim Sora Collective is a creative ensemble dedicated to reimagining Korean traditional performing arts through a contemporary artistic language. Kim Sora's <Women's Nongak – Hello & Peace Ritual>, selected as a premiere work of the 2025 Performing Arts Creation Factory, revisits the history and artistic legacy of women performers—nongak artists and mudang (female shamans)—whose vital contributions to Korea's traditional performing arts have often been overlooked.

The work combines the rhythms, movements, and ritual songs of Honam Udo Nongak and Donghaean Byeolsingut, transforming them into a contemporary soundscape and choreographic language. It celebrates the resilience of women who built their own artistic traditions and served their communities within a historically male-dominated performance culture. Going beyond the theme of gender, the production presents a fresh artistic vision for Nongak that speaks to contemporary audiences.

By deconstructing and reassembling traditional heritage through a modern perspective, <Women's Nongak – Hello & Peace Ritual> offers a heartfelt wish for peace, harmony, and well-being.
