Five Pansori Stories

Five Pansori Stories is one of the signature programs of the Jeonju International Sori Festival and a defining expression of the Festival's artistic identity. Every year, it brings together some of Korea's finest sorikkun (Pansori singers), and the 2026 edition continues this tradition.

The 2026 Five Pansori Stories also adopts a new presentation format. While maintaining Pansori at its core, the program is designed as a series of collaborative performances rather than traditional solo recitals. Some audiences who expect a conventional Pansori presentation may find this approach unexpected, as it differs from previous editions. At the same time, the Festival cannot ignore the reality that Pansori faces increasing challenges in attracting wider public interest. In recent years, Five Pansori Stories has struggled to generate larger audiences and broader public attention. The Festival therefore recognizes the need to reimagine its signature program and reaffirm its place at the heart of the Jeonju International Sori Festival. The intention behind this year's programming is clear: to lead the Festival toward a successful future through bold artistic innovation.
