The 2018 Asia SORI Project

The International Artist-in-Residency Residency Project is a project in which the Jeonju Int’l Sori Festival works hand in hand with Asian musicians. Musicians from Mongolia, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, and Korea are participating in the project, and it is part of the Cultural Partnership Initiative. Selected artists will participate in all sorts of required research and workshops in Korea, compose their musical pieces, and finally showcase them on the Sori Festival stage for the first time. Then, based on their achievement, they can go on Asian tours and try to advance their projects while targeting Asian markets. While creating future-oriented and innovative tradition, it will, at the same time, give us a chance to illuminate the values and meanings of the process to lead the current of traditional Asian arts.

2. Gipsy Pigs, the Pigswana Orchestra(France)

이미지

Since 1998, Gipsy Pigs - the official marching band of Pigswana, universally known as Pigswana Orchestra - contribute to the welfare of humanity, and even of the galaxy. Children, men, women and old men acclaim them at every show, admiring the generosity and talent of this spirited team. The genius of their musical compositions, their frenzied enthusiasm and distinguished kindness, should lead Pigswana Orchestra to be the first street orchestra soon registered as World Heritage by UNESCO.

3. The Acoustic Transformers(France)

이미지

The Acoustic Transformers is a group of five musicians who interpret a swaying music, gathering various musical styles (Reggae, Calypso, New Orleans, Salsa ...), original or cover, in a street band format. Their particularity: the musicians play instruments made from recycling materials, with stunning aesthetics: the “tubatong”, played with flip flops, which distills a very special bass sound, or the "Piti dishes" that produce melodies from stainless steel dishes, close to the sound of a steel drum. Designed by Bruno Blandy - (very) wild luthier - this orchestra of a new kind guarantees surprise.
